Our crew has been with us for a long time. Our Forman Alex has been with us for over 12 years. Several of our general crew members have been with us for 6-7 years. They’re a strong, experienced, team.

No. While we’ll do a yard clean-up after we complete an install, we are not a weekly yard maintenance company.

We install lots of driveways, walkways, patios, drought-tolerant landscaping, pergolas, water features/waterfalls, dry creeks, and BBQ areas are all very popular.

We'll come to your house for a walkthrough within a week of your call. We will have a draft of your landscape design to you within 1-2 weeks. Once the design is finalized, we set a start date for the install. 

Installation times vary depending on yard size, features, etc. Typically 1-6 weeks. 

Norm Ugai is a landscape designer and California-licensed contractor. He’s not a landscape architect. He has a BA in mechanical engineering from the University of Nebraska and a MS from UC Berkeley. Having a background in engineering is something he applies daily at CAL.

CAL covers the greater San Jose area, including Mountain View, Campbell, Los Gatos, Los Altos, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, and Milpitas. We also take jobs as far from our office in San Jose as Livermore, Gilroy, San Mateo, Palo Alto, Scotts Valley, and Santa Cruz.

We do. We level and install complete irrigation tailored specifically to the needs of your particular landscape. The longevity of your landscape depends on proper irrigation. That’s why we provide a 1-year guaranty on your irrigation installation.

We have a 90 day warranty on plants. Typically, if a plant is going to live or die, it’s apparent during that time. Keep in mind that since we guaranty all irrigation for a year,  if any plants die due to problems with irrigation, or another issue related to our installation, we will most likely replace it. Your irrigation is very important. So if you see any issues, give us a call right away so we can come and check it out.

Yes, we install many forms of concrete. Being that we live in California, it’s important to keep in mind that we get earthquakes. The ground moves quite a bit and concrete risks cracking. That’s why we reinforce our concrete with rebar and wire, and take precautions when installing concrete. To prevent cracking, we recommend using pavers. They’re individually installed and have some give to them. That’s why they’re one of our most popular materials for hardscaping. 

We typically use two brands of pavers, Calstone and Belgard. Both have tons of colors, types, and patterns. Though we’re not exclusive to those brands. If you have a particular paver in mind, we will be happy to install it for you.

Yes. San Jose City Water District gives a rebate for drought-tolerant landscaping. The rebate is $1 per square foot of sod that you replace with drought-tolerant landscaping. The reason the city prefers Xeriscaping is that it saves a significant amount of water. To qualify for the rebate, you will need to choose plants from a list of water-wise plants provided by the San Jose City Water District. Not to worry, the list is quite extensive.

We don’t charge a fee for designing your landscape. However, we don’t provide landscape design services without the purchase of installation. For us, we take pride in designing and installing a landscape that meets your particular needs. That’s why we love to work with you from conception to installation.
